All REALTOR® members are required to complete 2.5 hours of Code of Ethics training per two-year cycle. We are currently in the cycle that begins January 1, 2019 and ends December 31, 2020.
Failure to comply with this required ethics training is a violation of a membership duty, for which the member’s primary association will suspend membership until the training is complete.
The only REALTORS® exempt from this requirement are REALTORS® with REALTOR® Emeritus status.Appraisers or Attorneys must meet this membership requirement and are not exempt.
NOTE: This is a National Association of REALTORS® mandate; NOT a requirement of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation or it's Continuing Education course requirement. However, if you take an Ethics CE course you will meet part of your CE requirement as well as the NAR® membership mandate.
Existing REALTOR® members must complete 2.5 hours of ethics training, meeting specific learning objectives and criteria, within two-year cycles.REALTORS® who have completed the required ethics training within a two-year cycle in one association shall not be required to complete any further ethics training for that same training cycle if the REALTOR® becomes or is a member of another association.
New members of local REALTOR® associations must complete similar training when they first join.
